What made you want to pursue a career in design?
Architectural design feels like the perfect balance between creativity and problem-solving. I enjoy the challenge of turning abstract ideas into practical, buildable solutions. Kelly Zhang, Architectural Designer
I always had an interest in maths and art. Working within the architecture profession felt like a good hybrid of both! Stephanie Hong, Project Leader
Did you have any apprehensions about embarking upon this career? If so, what were they?
Yes, I was aware that a design career would likely be very demanding and could involve long hours. But these concerns actually became motivators to be resilient and very intentional about my professional growth. Tulika Agarwal, Graduate of Architecture
Did you have any preconceived ideas about gender equity in the industry and, if so, were they confirmed or refuted when you entered the industry?
I was aware that architecture has traditionally been a male-dominated profession — particularly in senior roles. I do feel like that is changing and I love seeing renowned architects like Zaha Hadid and Kazuyo Sejima blazing a trail for emerging designers. Kelly Zhang, Architectural Designer
When thinking about your profession, why is gender equity so important?
Architecture shapes communities and daily life. A diverse profession leads to more inclusive and considered design outcomes. Gender equity ensures that the built environment reflects a wider range of experiences, while also encouraging a professional culture that values inclusion, teamwork, and knowledge-sharing. Kelly Zhang, Architectural Designer
Gender equity is vital if we’re to design in ways that reflect the diversity of the communities who engage with our designs. Inclusive representation leads to stronger teams, better outcomes and more sustainable workplaces. Tulika Agarwal, Graduate of Architecture
Who inspires you and why?
My mum has always been my greatest source of inspiration. She has dedicated herself to working hard and has shown me that it is possible to succeed as a woman in business — all whilst maintaining your moral compass and without compromising your individuality! I admire the way our Director Sherif Saad encourages people and sparks their curiosity in ways that helps them realise their full potential. Stephanie Hong, Project Leader
