Toukley Childcare
An existing client and childcare centre operator were eager to expand their brand and approached ArtMade to design a new purpose-built centre In Toukley. on the Central Coast region of NSW. The site is surrounded by a mix of residential and commercial developments with scenic views of the surrounding lakes. The centre has been designed over four levels; ground floor parking with the three stories above are dedicated entirely to childcare.
Capturing moments and views was the main concept that was implemented on each level of the centre. Openings within joinery items capture those “peek-a-boo” moments encouraging interaction and curiosity within the children. Further enhancing this notion, cutouts have been designed into floor slabs to create voids that allow visually dynamic connections between each floor level.
Each floor of the centre presents an interactive tactile strip providing activities that activate the imagination and engage the senses. This interactive space acts as a spine connecting all the children to a unique spatial experience.
Visual connections to the water are framed by large arched shaped openings located on the southern façade. The arched design language has been carried through and implemented to all facades of the building.
